Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') followed by wild-yeast fermentation. Maturation for 20 months on the lees in 20% first-use French oak barrels (Taransaud und François Frères ), with regular bâtonnage (lees stirring). Malolactic fermentation also occurred during this time. After a short time in stainless steel, the wine was bottled unfiltered.
Medium straw-yellow in colour. Pure, expressive, intense nose of ripe citrus, flint and aromatic herbs. The palate is compact, focused and bursting with energy, with wonderful salinity and vibrancy.
Planted in 1991 and 1997, Hyde Vineyard is situated on the gently rolling slopes of the Los Carneros appellation (on the Napa side). Cooling marine air flowing through the Petaluma Gap moderates temperatures and ensures that the grapes enjoy ample hang time. The topsoil is comprised of clay loam over a compact clay subsoil.
