Ökonomierat Rebholz
Hans and Valentin Rebholz and their team work in harmony with nature and keep their winemaking interventions to the absolute minimum. Extremely ageworthy and imbued with typical varietal character, their dry wines need lots of time to show their true potential – but are worth the wait for this very reason.
The Rebholz family, whose history in Siebeldingen dates as far back as the 16th century, have lived and breathed viticulture for generations. The estate mansion in the centre of the village has belonged to the family for over 100 years. Brothers Hans and Valentin Rebholz recently took over responsibility for vineyard and cellar operations from their parents Hansjörg and Birgit.
Eco-friendly viticulture according to biodynamic principles
Hans and Valentin are uncompromising in their approach. This applies first and foremost to the estate’s top-class vineyards, where healthy soils with a good balance of moisture and minerals are essential for healthy vines. All the grapes are picked by hand and undergo long macerations. Chaptalisation, deacidification and fining are a no-no. The estate switched to organic farming in 2005 and was certified organic by the EU in 2008. It has also been a member of the ‘Respekt’ group of biodynamic wineries since 2015.
Committed to making the most of their top vineyards
Since growing the estate to 25 hectares, the Rebholz family have continued to the cultivate their idea of pure, natural, unfettered wine. They own plots in the sweet spots of top vineyards such as Kastanienbusch and Mandelberg in Birkweiler, Im Sonnenschein and Ganz Horn in Siebeldingen, and Schäwer in Burrweiler. Hans and Valentin are committed to nurturing and making the most of this precious terroir, now and in the future.
“Respecting and preserving the quality of our fruit is vital. Only by letting the wine express itself are we able to reveal the character of our different terroirs in such a striking, authentic way.”
Valentin Rebholz
