Manual harvest followed by vinification in oak as well as stainless steel, with little to no winemaking intervention. Then a long period of maturation on the gross lees. This pure, dry wine is neither fined nor filtered.
The 2022 Riesling from monopole vineyard Batterieberg has a very appealing, complex nose of fresh herbs, peach, apple, pear, candied citrus and subtle yeast. Full-bodied on the palate, with lots of grip and tension without being overpowering. There is a complex array of flavours on the palate ranging from apricot and peach to exotic, floral and herbal notes – held in place by a vein of saline minerality that becomes slightly stony in character on a very long finish.
All the estate's vines grow on organically farmed, steep terrain. The fruit for this wine comes from monopole vineyard Batterieberg, where ungrafted vines were planted some 100 years ago on quartzite-rich grey slate soils.
