Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Six months of maturation on the fine lees in stainless steel before bottling and subsequent release.
Top notes of citrus and ripe white fruit on the nose along with mineral and slightly smoky hints. Powerful palate with lovely spice notes, a linear mouthfeel, and ripe fruit on the finish.
Bassermann-Jordan own 0.75 hectares in this vineyard. Pechstein means 'pitchstone', which refers to the black basalt in the soil. This volcanic rock is interspersed with sandy loam, while sandstone gravel and clay are also prominent in certain places.
