The primary focus during the vinification stage is on the preserving and expressing the purity of the fruit picked in the vineyard. Selective manual harvest followed by slow fermentation based on the wild yeasts that occur naturally in the vineyard – a process that can last more than 10 months. Maturation in traditional Mosel Fuder (oak casks).
A very assertive Rothenpfad on the nose, with grapefruit, blackcurrant and exotic fruit, complemented by dried herbs, spice and mineral notes. Wonderful concentration on an electrifying palate, with impressive minerality dovetailing with the fruit characters. Dominant citrus on a long finish.
Rothenpfad is south-south-east-facing with red slate. They generally pick the grapes here a little later compared to other GG vineyards, owing to a slightly cooler microclimate.
