Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by fermentation in 1,000-litre Fuder (oak casks) and 3,000-litre oak vats. Maturation on the fine lees for 12 months, without any bâtonnage (lees stirring).
Fine, complex nose of grapefruit and blossom. Lovely velvety palate showing notable power, distinct, vibrant minerality and ripe fruit notes on the finish.
Shimmering red and insanely steep, Ürziger Würzgarten is a unique amphitheatre of vines overlooking the River Mosel. Although it abuts the vineyards of Erden, Ürziger Würzgarten yields a completely different kind of fine wine, exhibiting plentiful notes of exotic spice as well as outstanding depth. In some years, Würzgarten Rieslings will also take on an aniseed or even slightly Gewürztraminer-like characteristic. Weathered red volcanic and slate terroir is what makes Würzgarten so unique on the Mosel. High ferrous content of this soil lends the vineyard its vivid red colour. 'Urglück' is the name of the plot from which this GG was sourced, located in the original part of the Würzgarten vineyard, up the slope directly behind the village.
