Selective manual harvest of overripe, partially botrytised grapes. Gentle pressing followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Fermentation was stopped early through cooling to prevent all the sugar from converting into alcohol, resulting in a wine with notable residual sweetness.
Highly concentrated and dense on the nose, with notes of honey, tea, dried fruit and botrytis. Beautiful acidity, depth and complexity on the palate.
Erdener Prälat is the smallest and best vineyard at Weingut Dr. Loosen. The site's exceptionally warm microclimate, perfect southerly aspect, and red slate terroir produce Rieslings full of energy and complexity. Its sheltered location sandwiched between the river below and the crags above results in great dry Rieslings and ultra-fine sweet wines all the way up to Trockenbeerenauslese. Mango, passion fruit and bitter almond constitute the characteristic aromas and flavours of a Prälat Riesling.
