Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Fermentation on the skins in a traditional open-top oak fermenter. Gentle pressing followed by maturation for around 18 months in 228-litre Burgundian barrels (one-third new oak). Then bottling.
Impressive elegance on the nose, with cherry, mint and a hint of black pepper. Fresh, mineral attack with notable tannins and a vibrant red berry finish.
'Burgstädter Berg' was the first-ever designation of origin for a vineyard in Germany, with old cadastral maps referring to it as far back as 1790. It comprises the renowned Centgrafenberg and Hundsrück Grosse Lagen. Wines from this site owe their distinctive minerality to soils consisting of weathered red sandstone.
