Fermentation on the skins for 14 days and maturation for 18 months in large oak.
This Pinot Noir has an attractive, complex nose – with red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, candied violet and delicate hints of leather and cigar box. Dry and powerful, with well-integrated tannins and juicy acidity. Very long finish with ripe red berries, roasted notes and tobacco.
The Kaiserstuhl's volcanic origins are particularly apparent in the Feuerberg vineyard. Burkheim's weathered volcanic terroir is at its darkest amid the dry, stony soils of the Kesselberg lieu-dit situated therein. The fruit for this Pinot Noir Grosses Gewächs grows on the south-facing side of the Kesselberg hill in rows oriented in the direction of the slope.
