Only in the very best vintages does Markus Schneider produce this red wine from his finest block of Portugieser vines. He was able to pick very late in 2020 harvesting fruit of such good quality and ripeness that this new edition of 'Einzelstück' was a no-brainer. After a meticulous harvest, the grapes were fermented on their skins for several weeks. The fledgling wine was then left to mature in oak for 12 months and an additional 36 month in bottle.
Cherry-red colour with ruby reflections. Cherry, herbs, vanilla, orangezest, mint and ripe plum on the nose. Powerful and dense on the palate, with juicy vitality and silky tannins.
Markus Schneider's old Portugieser vines date back as far as the 1920s, having survived the gradual uprooting of Portugieser vineyards seen elsewhere. He still has almost six hectares of the variety growing on sandy, gravelly soils.
