Möhr-Niggli Weine

Sina Gubler-Möhr and husband Matthias represent the fourth generation to run the family wine business at Weingut Möhr-Niggli. They are best known for their Pinot Noir, matured in Burgundian pièces. ‘Pilgrim’, the first wine that Matthias and Sina produced together, is the estate’s linchpin wine.

Sina’s parents are responsible for the name Möhr-Niggli. They took over the estate at the end of the 1980s and grew it to its current size. Now Sina and her husband Matthias manage the winery. The couple returned to take over the reins after years of working together in Italy, France, Chile and California. 

Focusing on Pinot Noir

Sisa and Matthias farm approximately four hectares in Maienfeld in the Bündner Herrschaft region of Graubünden as well as 0.6 hectares in Maisprach in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Their clear focus is on Pinot Noir – the sole constituent of ‘Pilgrim’ and of other bottlings made from single-vineyard fruit sourced from three very different terroirs. ‘Pilgrim’ symbolises the husband-and-wife team’s humble pursuit of excellence. It also refers to the German translation ‘Pilger’ – the family sourced some of the fruit for the wine from a plot that they own in a Maienfeld single vineyard of the same name. 

Sustainable and holistic 

Sina and Matthias favour a holistic approach to winegrowing and winemaking. Their estate belongs to Fair’n Green, a recognised system to promote greater environmental responsibility and sustainability among an international network of wineries.

“From the moment we plant vines in the soil, we influence a natural cycle. Long-term responsibility and a holistic view of this cycle are prerequisites for our work in the vineyard and cellar.”
