Mount Eden Vineyards
By all accounts, this boutique winery has been growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for longer than any other producer in North America. Jeffrey Patterson is responsible for the estate’s consistently high quality, which is comparable to that of Ridge’s legendary Monte Bello.
Mount Eden Vineyards is a small, historic property in the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation, offering wonderful views of Silicon Valley from its perch 2,000 feet above sea level. Established in 1945 by Martin Ray, Mount Eden is known as one of the California’s original boutique wineries.
Other vineyards in Saratoga and the Edna Valley
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are the three flagship grapes at Mount Eden. Planted on cool, exposed slopes with austere, infertile shale soil, these vineyard holdings have been a source of world-class wine for over half a century. In 2007, the estate acquired an additional 22 hectares on a neighbouring mountain top in the Saratoga foothills, subsequently naming this property Domaine Eden. Mount Eden also produces a Chardonnay from vines grown at Wolff Vineyard in the Edna Valley – a much-admired wine on account of its consistently high quality.
Continuity
Winemaker and proprietor Jeffrey Patterson has been at Mount Eden since 1981. Jeffrey is committed above all to sustainable farming practices and tends his vineyards with great passion and care. It is thanks to his work that Mount Eden wines are of comparable quality to those of Ridge’s Monte Bello.

California
California is the biggest and best-known viticultural region in North America. The Golden State’s sunny, Pacific-influenced climate produces wines of unique character. Many top Californian Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons enjoy a considerable following in Europe but are only available in limited quantities.
