Meticulous selection of hand-picked grapes. Gentle pressing followed by controlled fermentation over a number of months. Aroma-protecting vinification and a long period of maturation on the fine lees to preserve terroir expression and develop complex aromas and flavours.
This outstanding wine has a beautiful lemon-green shimmer. Highly complex and uniquely structured, showing petrol, nectarine and pineapple to begin with. Fruity notes of apple, apricot and lime then come into their own. Slim in body with striking acidity, this is an immaculately configured Riesling.
Sourced from the hectare or so vines that constitute the heart of the Ungsteiner Weilberg Grosse Lage – a plot referred to as Roterde, or 'Red Earth', in common parlance. The characteristic clayey loam and limestone soils of this terroir, combined with a favourable microclimate, enable grapes to ripen slowly and fully.
