Weingut Pfeffingen
Weingut Pfeffingen is nestled among the idyllic vineyards of Ungstein in the Pfalz, where the Eymael family put their heart and soul into growing a fascinating variety of characterful wines.
Three generations of the Eymael family live and work at this lovely estate in the hamlet of Pfeffingen, which is situated between Bad Dürkheim and Ungstein. Weingut Pfeffingen is the life’s work of Karl and Helene Fuhrmann, whose daughter Doris Eymael (née Fuhrmann) took over the running of the winery in 1991 before handing over to son Jan Eymael in 2002. Jan studied viticulture in Geisenheim and gained experience at wineries abroad (California, Bordeaux, Australia). While respecting the family tradition, Jan also likes to thinks out of the box and is a quality fanatic through and through.
Sustainable winegrowing
Quality means everything to the Eymael family, starting in the vineyard and ending in the finished bottle, with hand-picking of impeccable fruit the essential prerequisite for exceptional wines. The estate comprises a total of 17 hectares under vine, which include the top Ungstein locations Herrenberg and Weilberg. Jan farms his vineyards sustainably and meticulously. The property’s membership of Fair’n Green and the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates, or VDP) reflects Jan’s quality-oriented approach.
Scheurebe specialities
Weingut Pfeffingen produces fruity, mineral-driven Rieslings that show a sense of place born of the soil and the region’s specific climate. The estate has also made a name for itself for its dry and sweet interpretations of the aromatic grape variety Scheurebe, which are a joy to drink and have a considerable following.
“Being a winemaker is a unique, incomparable vocation. You need a lot of passion, a literally hands-on approach and a good dose of inspiration and creativity.”
