Selective manual harvest followed by slow fermentation based on the wild yeasts that occur naturally in the vineyard – a process that can last more than 10 months. Maturation in traditional Mosel Fuder (oak casks).
Lovely slate nose accompanied by grapefruit, mirabelle and apricot notes. Pure and precise on the palate, with wonderful tension, an appealing structure and a fine, silky texture.
The grapes for this Riesling mainly come from Rothenpfad – a parcel that was recognised as one of the best and most valuable vineyard sites on the Mosel as early as the 19th century. Rothenpfad's very light soils consist primarily of soft, weathered red shale – a genuine rarity on the Mosel. A small proportion of the fruit is sourced from the Nonnengarten vineyard, where the soils are also red but much heavier and more varied. The grapes from both these sites complement each other perfectly and have formed the basis of this wine since the 2003 vintage. Farming is strictly biodynamic, while the winemaking is slow and gentle.
