Instead of resorting to copious amounts of chemical fertiliser, Weingut Dr. Loosen only work their soils using low quantities of organic manure. And more than anything else, they favour a gentle, more old-school form of winemaking that gives their wines enough time to develop their inner balance and pedigree, fermenting them with wild yeasts whenever possible and affording them a long period of maturation on the fine lees.
Spicy, slightly exotic aromas complemented by white fruit. This Spätlese has a lovely light-footed character and beautiful balance.
Shimmering red and insanely steep, Ürziger Würzgarten is a unique amphitheatre of vines overlooking the River Mosel. Although it abuts the vineyards of Erden, Ürziger Würzgarten yields a completely different kind of fine wine, exhibiting plentiful notes of exotic spice as well as outstanding depth. In some years, Würzgarten Rieslings will also take on an aniseed or even slightly Gewürztraminer-like characteristic. Weathered red volcanic and slate terroir is what makes Würzgarten so unique on the Mosel. High ferrous content of this soil lends the vineyard its vivid red colour. 'Urglück' is the name of the plot from which this GG was sourced, located in the original part of the Würzgarten vineyard, up the slope directly behind the village.
