Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes (maximum yield of 40 hectolitres per hectare). Gentle pressing followed by slow wild-yeast fermentation for several weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Subsequent maturation on the lees until just before bottling, to add complexity and body.
Slightly reductive on the nose at first – then spicy, chalky, deep and complex. Linear and chalky on the palate. Incredible structure and beautiful salinity are this Riesling's calling cards.
Der Saumagen ist eine der bekanntesten Riesling Lagen der Welt. Das Terroir ist eine spektakuläre Mischung aus Terra Fusca (Kalksteinbraunlehm) im Oberboden und massiver Kalksteinfels im Unterboden. Sonnendurchfluteter Südosthang am Fusse des Pfälzer Waldes. Die Lage liegt am Fusse der Haardt, des parallel zum Rhein liegenden Gebirgszugs am Ostrand des Pfälzer Waldes, auf einer Höhe zwischen 160 und 200 Meter über Meer.
