The grapes (around 5% white) are mostly left as whole bunches. Wild-yeast fermentation in 1,000-litre oak vats. Subsequent maturation for 12 months in used tonneaux. Bottled without filtration or fining.
Nose of ripe red and dark berries along with fresh herbs, floral hints, graphite and liquorice. Very fresh on the palate, with silky tannins and a medium body. Berry flavours and fine salt on a long, complex finish.
The grapes come from various plots in Valtuille. Sandy clay soils at an altitude of 510 to 560 metres. Bush vines, some aged over 100 years. Continental climate with a slight Atlantic influence.
