Tenuta Casenuove

Tenuta Casenuove Alessandro Fonseca, Tenuta Casenuove

Tenuta Casenuove is rooted in ancient soil but brimming with new energy at the forefront of the Chianti Classico renaissance. Its elegant, long-lived wines are imbued with a contemporary twist, making them a joy to drink.

Tenuta Casenuove is a historic wine estate based in Panzano in the heart of the famous Chianti region. It was acquired in 2015 by entrepreneur, art collector and wine lover Philippe Austruy, the owner of prestigious wineries in France and Portugal. Together with a dynamic young team of local talents, he has brought renewed lustre to the estate in his drive for excellence.

Sangiovese and other traditional Chianti grape varieties

Protected by adjacent woodland and olive groves, the estate’s 28 hectares under vine are located high above the River Pesa at elevations of between 370 and 490 metres. Their prime location, combined with a healthy diurnal temperature range and galestro-rich soils, provides the ideal conditions for wines of great elegance and longevity. The main grape variety at Tenuta Casenuove is Sangiovese. Following careful soil analysis, new vines were planted in 2016. These include Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well as the traditional Chianti blend varieties Canaiolo, Ciliegolo and Colorino.

On the way to organic certification

In 2018, Tenuta Casenuove began to convert to certified-organic winemaking. The estate no longer uses any herbicides or synthetic fertilisers. A new winemaking facility was also installed in time for harvest in the same year, allowing for full gravity-flow processing to minimise damage to the grapes. Oenologist Cosimo Casini directs all work in the vineyards, while Maria Sole Zoli is charge of winemaking.

Art lover Austruy has teamed up with gallerist Lorenzo Fiaschi to launch ‘Le Redici dell’Arte’ – a project giving a different artist each year the opportunity to display their works all around the estate.
