Domaine Gassier Michel Gassier, Domaine Gassier

Winegrowing in the Southern Rhône is a vocation for Michel Gassier and his family, who are passionate about producing handcrafted wines that communicate a sense of place and showcase the potential of their region.

Michel Gassier learned all about winemaking in California before returning to Caissargues to take over his parents’ winery, thereby becoming the fourth generation of his family to run the business.

A farmer with an open, inquisitive mind

Michel Gassier sees himself as a farmer first and foremost. He has been working in vineyards for as long as he can remember and is respectful of the natural environment around him. But he also views himself as a perfectionist and an inquisitive soul who loves to experiment in the cellar as well as interact with, and learn from, other winemakers around the world. For him, this is key to producing the best possible wines – full of freshness, minerality and balance.

Proud to be certified-organic

The Gassier family feel very attached to their home region and want to preserve and enhance the potential of their vineyards. Although organic farming can be very time-consuming with its focus on promoting soil health, it helps to create a balance in the vineyard ecosystem and thereby improve the quality of the wine. Domaine Gassier is proud to be certified-organic producer.

“The imprint of terroir on a wine is like a musical score and is always deeper, more complex and more interesting than the human imprint. The winemaker needs to learn to understand it and nourish it, to let its vibrato resonate through the wine. Later, much like a conductor, the winemaker can give free rein to their creativity through the art of blending.”
