Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet currently farm 20 hectares of prime vineyard on the Côte d’Or. Their ethos is to produce wines with depth and structured minerality. This is an exciting producer with a very recent history.

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot is based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, a typical Burgundian village situated eight kilometres south-west of Chassagne-Montrachet on the Côte d’Or.

Winemaking in their genes

Dynamic winemaking brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet founded the estate in 2005, having inherited their passion for wine from their grandfather Bernard and father Jean-Francois. Both studied viticulture and did internships at wineries in France and abroad. Their vineyard portfolio is comprised of grand cru (one hectare), premier cru (12 hectares) and village sites (seven hectares) in Puligny-Montrachet, Santenay, Saint-Aubin, Meursault, Maranges and Dezize-lès-Maranges.

A sustainable approach

With the aim of preserving the terroir at their disposal, Marc and Alexandre shun the use of chemical treatments, aerate their soils regularly, limit crop sizes and harvest exclusively by hand in several passes. Their vines have an average age of 50 years (red wine) and 40 years (white wine).

Although Domaine Bachelet-Monnot is still a very young estate, the brothers’ wines have already attracted praise from international critics – including Stephen Tanzer: ‘The Bachelets make wines that are classically styled, emphasizing the inherent freshness, complexity and minerality in each cuvée. […] This is a new producer to follow.’
