Hand-picking and stringent grape selection delivered immaculate fruit (100% whole-bunch pressing) for the 2022 Pfaffenwies. Fermentation and maturation on the fine lees in large oak casks.
Pronounced citrus notes on the nose along with herbs, flint, chalky minerality and ripe fruit. Very crisp and firm on the palate, with a considerable degree of concentration and richness despite only weighing in at 11.5% alcohol. The finish is long, showing lots of spice and salty minerality.
Pfaffenwies in Lorch is a site that covers the entire height of the vineyard slope, from the banks of the Rhine up to the edge of the forest. This steep, south-west-facing hill is home to vines planted up to 55 years ago on soils consisting of Hunsrück slate and Taunus quartzite.
