Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') including 35% of the stems, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Gentle pressing followed by maturation for 14 months in French oak barrels (25% first-use). The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, then left to age for a further 10 months before release.
Deep ruby with a black core. Very complex on the nose, with a range of unusual aromas. Exquisite acidity on a palate showing remarkable freshness and tension. An amalgam of dried herbs, white truffle, blackberry jam and tobacco. This wine needs a certain amount of bottle ageing before being opened and should provide drinking pleasure over the next 10 years.
Reynvaan owns two very different vineyards that express their terroir in their own specific way. The 'Foothills in the Sun' vineyard is a 40.5-hectare slope on which the vines have no other option but to push deep into the soil for water and nutrients. This results in intensely concentrated fruit. The vines also enjoy optimum sunlight exposure thanks to the site's south-westerly aspect.
