Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Gentle pressing then maturation for 18 months, partly in new and partly in used French oak barrels. This is a Rhône-inspired wine. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Deep ruby colour. Red and blue fruit, violet, mocha, chocolate and herbs on the nose. Powerful body, ripe tannins, lovely fruit expression and impressive amplitude and depth, with a notable mineral backbone.
Sourced from elevated sites in the Red Mountain AVA, where the terrain is mostly steep, rocky and of volcanic origin. The vines have to send their roots deep into the soil in order to reach water and nutrients. This lends a powerful yet elegant structure to the finished wine. The site's aspect is west-south-west, at an altitude of 293 to 375 metres above sea level.
