Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Fermentation on the skins for 21 days, followed by pressing and subsequent maturation, including malolactic fermentation, for 19 months in 100% new oak barrels. The wine was bottled unfiltered before being released for sale.
Intense nose with a good concentration of dark cherry and blackberry as well as beautifully proportioned roasted notes and freshly ground spice. Powerful and rich on the palate, with fine tannins. Dark fruit and fine minerality on a long-lasting finish.
The historically renowned Herrenberg vineyard is situated below the rocks of the Schwedenkopf hill. Its terraced southern portion is a steep south-facing slope with gradients of up to 60 degrees as well as slate and greywacke soils.
