Crushing of grapes after harvest, followed by a cold maceration ('cold soak'). Fermentation in open-top fermenters. Subsequent maturation in French oak for 12 months.
Intense berry fruit on the nose (blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant) along with dried plum, fig and subtle hints of forest floor and spice. This red wine shows lovely intensity on the palate without being overly concentrated or sweet. The alcohol (14% abv) is well integrated, and the tannins are also soft and silky. A delicious, fruit-driven wine with attractive spice notes continuing through to the finish.
Winegrowing is one of the mainstays of local life in Clare Valley, where it dates back to 1851. As one of Australia's most prestigious wine regions, Clare Valley is mainly known for its Riesling, Cabernet and Shiraz. Boasting a beautiful landscape of gentle hills as well as a Mediterranean climate offering just the right amount of winter rainfall, Clare Valley is a unique place that has played a singular role in the history of Australian wine. The Shiraz and Cabernet vines for this red wine are located in the eastern part of the Clare Valley on shelly limestone with a top layer of brown clay.
