Meticulous selection of hand-picked grapes. Destemming followed by fermentation on the skins for three weeks in open-top oak fermenters and vats, then gentle pressing. Subsequent maturation for 18 months in small barrels made from German and French oak. No filtering and or any other treatment.
Multilayered on the nose, with eucalyptus, blueberry, dark fruit and earthy and spicy notes. The palate is dense, full-bodied and complex, with a lovely ripe mouthfeel, tremendous depth and fresh minerality.
The Heydenreich vineyard slopes south towards Wissembourg in Alsace situated just above the Sankt Paul lieu-dit. The vines grow on a heavy topsoil of loam and clay over a bedrock of limestone.
