Meticulous selection of hand-picked grapes. Destemming followed by fermentation on the skins for three weeks in open-top oak fermenters and vats, then gentle pressing. Subsequent maturation for 18 months in small barrels made from German and French oak. No filtering and or any other treatment.
This wine pulls out all the stops. Compared to Kammerberg and Sankt Paul, Fritz Becker's Pinot Noir Heydenreich takes freshness and sensuality to the next level. Deep ruby colour, with forest fruit, raspberry, red cherry, fine woody notes and a hint of tobacco on the nose. Soft, smooth mouthfeel on an elegant, juicy palate. Ripe fruit, distinct minerality and persistent length augur well for a long and distinguished life ahead. This is a Pinot Noir of incredible depth, showing an effortless, fascinating combination of power and elegance.
The Heydenreich vineyard slopes south towards Wissembourg in Alsace situated just above the Sankt Paul lieu-dit. The vines grow on a heavy topsoil of loam and clay over a bedrock of limestone.
