Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Whole-cluster cold maceration (no destemming) followed by fermentation in ancient Gallo-Roman vats. Gentle pressing then maturation for 12 months – 20% in first-use, 50% in used oak barrels and 30% in concrete vats. No filtering.
Deep ruby. Blackcurrant, blueberry, oriental spice, peat, truffle and a touch of leather on the nose. Powerful, elegant body with polished, rounded tannins. This extremely succulent Gigondas has enormous potential.
Le Claux, a 1.8-hectare lieu-dit, is home to the estate's oldest vines. This is an enclosed vineyard, hence the name – a derivative of the Latin word clausum, which means 'closed'. The soil is comprised of clayey limestone marl from the Miocene period, with a top layer of small jagged stones. Wines from this terroir always have great finesse, with characteristic notes of sour cherry.
