Massimago
The Massimago story began in 2003 when the young agronomist Camilla Rossi Chauvenet took over her family’s vineyards and created her own brand from scratch. Bursting with energy and creative ideas, Camilla is breathing new life and personality into the Valpolicella classics with a remarkable range of high-class wines. She is very much an insider tip.
Massimago in Mezzane di Sotto comprises a total of 33 hectares, of which 12 hectares are under vine. The estate resembles an amphitheatre with its vineyards and olive groves, demarcated by woods on its outer limits. There are 14 vineyard plots within the property, situated at varying altitudes and exhibiting a range of different soils.
Young and dynamic
The Massimago brand is as young and dynamic as its creator Camilla Rossi Chauvenet, who is committed to sustainability and uncompromising quality in everything she does. To appeal to younger drinkers, Camilla has created a fresh line of wines that go by noble names such as Marchesa and Conte. Their unconventional labels were designed by artist Franco Chiani.
Organic Amarone and Ripasso
The estate vineyards are situated at elevations of between 100 and 350 metres, where a combination of limestone, loam, and clay-marl soils results in consistently high-quality crops. Camilla has been farming organically since 2008, applying an individualised approach to each of her vineyard plots in order to accentuate the differences in terroir. The result is an exceptional range of Valpolicellas – Amarone, Ripasso, Superiore, and more besides.
“Massimago has grown from a sweet country house into an atelier, a creative workshop. For 19 years it has been growing and distinguishing itself from other wineries by its clear identity. Massimago and I are holding hands, step by step. Sooner or later we will arrive, but please don’t rush us, time and nature are slow and inexorable.”
