Domaine de la Charbonnière
Sisters Caroline and Véronique Maret manage this estate, representing the fourth generation of their family to do so. Their elegant, complex cuvées reflect the unique Châteauneuf terroir and thrill international critics on a regular basis.
Eugène Maret bought Domaine de la Charbonnière in 1912 as a gift to his wife, the daughter of a vigneron from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their son Fernand Maret inherited and expanded the business before handing over the reins to his own son Michel, himself an avid winemaker.
A family winery spanning four generations
Michel’s daughters Caroline and Véronique took over in 2004, representing the fourth generation of the family to run the estate. Caroline and Véronique want to preserve and develop the family tradition, continuing the work of their father in selecting the best vineyard plots, practising sustainable viticulture and producing elegant, complex wines. Véronique vinifies all the wines herself. She produces some astounding premium cuvées year after year, attracting excellent scores from well-known critics.
Top Châteauneuf terroir
The estate currently comprises 19 hectares of vineyard in and around Châteauneuf-du-Pape, of which six hectares are in the Vacqueyras AOP and two hectares belong to the Côtes du Rhône AOP.
