Gabriele Scaglione Gabriele Scaglione

Gabriele Scaglione calls himself a ‘spirito indipendente’, or free spirit, who is simply following his passion and love for outstanding wine. His exclusive, small-batch bottlings are true reflections of their terroir, thanks to meticulous, uncompromising work in the vineyard.

Gabriele Scaglione grew up inhaling the wonderful smell of fermenting grapes. This is no surprise given that he comes from Canelli, a small Piedmontese town that straddles the prominent wine regions of Langhe and Monferrato. His love of good food and fine wine was what motivated him to become a vigneron.

Nebbiolo, Arneis, etc.

Gabriele now farms 12 hectares of vineyard, cultivating Moscato, Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera and a small quantity of Chardonnay. The names of his wines – playful titles such as ‘Ottimo con il pesce’ (Excellent with fish and …) and ‘I quattro conigli bianchi’ (The four white rabbits) – betray a certain irony, albeit they belie the winemaker’s hard work and meticulous craftsmanship. This is because Gabriele is passionate about making exceptional wine. He aims to express the local terroir through rigorous grape selection and vineyard management as well as minimal use of pesticides.

Committed to sustainable winegrowing

Gabriele favours sustainable crop protection, eliminating or minimising the use of chemicals wherever possible – for the sake of the environment, for greater consumer peace of mind, and for the natural balance of the local ecosystem.

“My wines are born through meticulous selection and long periods of ageing.”

Piedmont

Piedmont basically means ‘at the foot of the mountain’, accurately describing the region’s geographical position framed by mountains on three sides. It is one of the world’s great wine regions. Over 100 grape varieties are permitted for winegrowing in Piedmont. Red grapes Nebbiolo and Barbera are responsible for many of the best wines.
