Dhondt-Grellet
Dhondt-Grellet is a small family wine estate that farms according to biodynamic principles. Self-taught winemaker Adrien Dhondt, in charge since 2010, has catapulted the property to new heights.
Domaine Dhondt-Grellet was established by Eric Dhondt and Edith Grellet in 1985 and is based in Flavigny in the heart of the Côte des Blancs.
Self-taught – and talented
Adrien Dhondt took over from his parents in 2010 at the tender age of 26. He is a self-taught winemaker who frequently draws on his own observations and experiences to follow a distinctly Burgundian approach. He normally picks later and at higher ripeness levels than his peers. All his base wines see oak, while the dosage levels are minimal. His champagnes are pure, focused, vivid and remarkably complex and multilayered, with a distinctly wine-like character. Adrien is already one of the most exciting producers of grower champagne, according to Robert Parker, with some excellent scores confirming this assessment.
Single vineyards on the Côte des Blancs
The estate is proud to own a number of prized lieux-dits along the famous Côte des Blancs. After farming organically for a long time, it converted to biodynamics in 2013. Adrien has not applied for certification because, in his view, organic and biodynamic principles are not an end in itself but a means of producing honest, authentic wines. In nurturing his vines, many of which are quite old, Adrien works with great dedication and respect. This helps him to capture the essence of this wonderful terroir as clearly as possible.
