Formentera, Spain
Cap de Barbaria
Cap de Barbaria produces powerful, fruity and uniquely terroir-driven red wines on the island of Formentera. This is a wonderful new find from the Balearics.
Cap de Barbaria is a property situated in the south-western corner of the Balearic island of Formentera, comprising two different vineyards.
Perfect conditions for international and native grapes
The first vineyard (one hectare) surrounds the old estate farmhouse, which has been renovated and turned into a hotel. Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for 60% and Merlot 40% of the vines. The soils in this parcel are varied, with characteristics ranging from sandy to stony. The second vineyard is home to 40- to 50-year-old Monastrell vines as well as plantings of a native variety called Fogoneu. Both these grapes are well adapted to the dry climate.
