Selective harvest followed by a cold maceration ('cold soak'). Fermentation in open-top fermenters. Gentle pressing then maturation for 20 months – in 60% French and 40% American oak barrels.

Purple hue, with a very intense nose of ripe blackberry, dark plum, and liquorice. Powerful, mouth-filling, juicy and supple on the palate, with fine tannins and a long, expressive finish. Excellent ageing potential.

Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1968 by Jim Barry. Today, these vines produce less than two metric tons per hectare. The soil consists of sandy gravel and receives an average annual rainfall of 600 mm. The vineyard sits on a north-west-facing slope that acts as a natural sun trap, ensuring that the fruit is always fully ripened.
