Selective harvest, very gentle pressing. Maturation for around 18 to 20 months in first-use French oak barrels. (Younger sibling Tanbark Hill is matured in used oak barrels.)
Wonderfully intense aromas of dark fruit on the nose, with blackcurrant, plum, forest fruit, and cherry, complemented by bell pepper, thyme, rosemary and finely judged oak. Bordeaux elegance in abundance on a well-balanced palate. The finish is very long, showing pure, densely packed flavours of plum, coffee, leather and dried fruit. This wine is approachable if you want to drink it now. But good things come to those who wait.
Sourced at an altitude of almost 700 metres above sea level, from a vineyard planted in 1981 on the slopes of Spring Mountain just beyond the town of St. Helena. The soils are of volcanic origin.
