La Rioja Alta, S.A.
This historic winery, which has an in-house cooperage, is one of Rioja’s most prestigious producers. Its highly sought-after Reservas and Gran Reservas marry traditional finesse with modern depth and complexity.
Five families founded the ‘Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta’ in Haro’s iconic Station Quarter in 1890. They flung themselves into their new venture, with the aim of producing nothing less than high-end, ageworthy Rioja.
Tradition and state of the art seamlessly combined
La Rioja Alta has an in-house cooperage, which manufactures barrels using oak imported from the United States. In addition to the original winery in Haro, the estate also built modern facilities in Labastida in 1950 – a location allowing it to meet higher quality expectations and increased demand, marrying state-of-the art winemaking with traditional Rioja oak maturation and bottle ageing.
One of Rioja’s flagship estates
Today’s La Rioja Alta is a flagship estate, its rich legacy of wines having been instrumental in the Rioja wine region becoming so famous around the world. Gran Reserva 890 and Gran Reserva 904 are unforgettable, highly sought-after wines, but the Reserva bottlings also have a big following.

Rioja
Rioja is one of Europe’s most important wine regions, thanks to many renowned estates that have helped make it into what it is today. Smaller producers are now taking Rioja by storm with their delicious, fresh wines, which often take the form of single-varietal interpretations.
