Chiara Condello
Chiara Condello is a talented Italian winemaker based in the small town of Predappio. Her Sangiovese wines are rooted not only in the terroir and winegrowing tradition of her home region, but also in her own personal journey and ethos. She is an exciting young producer.
Chiara Condello sees herself as a custodian helping to perpetuate the centuries-old tradition of winegrowing in the hills around Predappio. She interprets Predappio’s singular terroir in her own unique way, producing two Sangiovese wines that showcase the potential of these vineyards and reveal the clarity of her vision.
Young and ambitious
Chiara owns four vineyard plots in the heart of the Predappio appellation, all situated in proximity to woodlands. These north- and east-facing parcels sit at altitudes of between 150 and 360 metres. The vines root deeply into calcareous clay soils. To make the unique Sangiovese that she wants, Chiara follows a distinctly organic ethos. This means respecting plant and soil life, working the land manually, using organic compost, minimising sulphur and copper treatments to combat pests, and harvesting all the grapes by hand.
Handcrafted Sangiovese
In the cellar, Chiara lets the wine dictate its own pace. She favours gravity-flow winemaking to preserve the character of the juice, as well as native-yeast fermentation, minimal temperature control, and long macerations. Her casks are made of Slavonian oak.
Artist Francesca Ballarini designed the label for Chiara’s top wine ‘Le Lucciole’.
“In my wines I seek the authentic expression of my land, its history, its soul. I imagine a bright, pure wine that is born from the unrepeatable conditions of the vintage as well as from its terroir of origin. To achieve this, I have decided to work in a simple way, following the dictates of organic viticulture and handcrafted winery management.”

Emilia Romagna
Although mass production dwarfs the output of its quality growers, Emilia-Romagna counts among Italy’s most diverse wine regions, with a rich heritage to match that of its culinary treasures. Emilia-Romagna and Lambrusco are closely intertwined, but red wines from the Sangiovese grape are the real star.
