Bollinger
Bollinger has been producing prestige champagnes of character, elegance and complexity since 1829.
Such outstanding wines are born of rigorous attention to detail, because nothing less than excellence will do at Bollinger. The champagne house’s uncompromisingly independent spirit, dedicated to unostentatious achievement, exemplifies the inimitable elegance for which the Champagne region is renowned.
Champagne from grand cru villages
Grands crus and premiers crus, spread across seven main winegrowing villages, account for 85% of the estate’s 179 hectares under vine: Aÿ, Avenay, Tauxières, Louvois and Verzenay for Pinot Noir, Cuis for Chardonnay, and Champvoisy for Pinot Meunier. Bollinger is one of the very few champagne houses to produce the majority of their own grapes for their blends. Pinot Noir makes up 60% of the Bollinger vineyards, which happens to be the exact proportion it occupies in the Special Cuvée blend. With its complexity and power, Pinot Noir gives Bollinger wines their remarkable structure.
“I drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it, unless I’m thirsty.”
