Azienda Agricola Paolo Saracco

Paolo Saracco is a pioneer in the modern production of Moscato d’Asti. His rise to prominence began when he took over his family’s diminutive estate in 1987. Paolo proceeded to expand the vineyard area from seven to 50 hectares. He now sells his wines all around the world.

The Saracco family have been growing vines in Castiglione Tinella, in the heart of Moscato d’Asti, since the early 19th century. They used to sell their grapes to the local cooperatives. It was not until 1987 that the dynamic Paolo Saracco started using his family’s Moscato fruit to produce Moscato d’Asti himself. He only had seven hectares to play with at the time – vines that his great-grandfather had acquired. 

A Moscato pioneer

Paolo’s approach to making Moscato d’Asti was pioneering thanks to the use of winemaking techniques that were cutting-edge at the time. It marked the estate’s true arrival as a quality producer. Paolo now owns 50 hectares – exclusively Moscato vines that he has acquired in prime sites over the years, situated around 400 metres above sea level. He fills around 350,000 bottles each year, selling these all around the world. 

Balance and sustainability

Working meticulously in both vineyard and cellar, Paolo is able to strike the right balance between tradition and technology. He practises sustainable viticulture, taking into account the vagaries of the weather throughout the year, while everything he does during the winemaking process is geared primarily to preserving the aromatic character of his grapes. 

Saracco is a name synonymous with high-end Moscato.
