Meticulous selection of immaculate hand-picked grapes. Gentle pressing followed by wild-yeast fermentation in traditional Fuder (oak casks). Subsequent maturation on the gross lees for 24 months as well as a further 24 months' ageing in bottle before release.
Pale gold colour. Ripe passion fruit, ripe red apple and quince dominate on the nose, underscored by mineral characters and a hint of beeswax. This is a Riesling with vibrant acidity and tremendous grip on the palate. It has wonderful flavours of passion fruit, mango, peach, lemon, apple and yellow pear. The finish is long, rounding off the fruit characters with a slightly saline minerality.
Erdener Prälat is the smallest and best vineyard at Weingut Dr. Loosen. The site's exceptionally warm microclimate, perfect southerly aspect, and red slate terroir produce Rieslings full of energy and complexity. Its sheltered location sandwiched between the river below and the crags above results in great dry Rieslings and ultra-fine sweet wines all the way up to Trockenbeerenauslese. Mango, passion fruit and bitter almond constitute the characteristic aromas and flavours of a Prälat Riesling.
