Château Monregard la Croix
This château produces only one wine – a very fine Merlot from an early-ripening vineyard.
Château Monregard La Croix actually belongs to Pomerol estate Clos du Clocher, but producing this wine separately is a no-brainer given the unique sandy clay soils of the tiny 1.3-hectare vineyard from which the fruit is sourced – perfect Merlot terroir giving great finesse and elegance.
An exceptional Merlot vineyard
If Clos du Clocher is all about clay, Monregard La Croix is sand. The plot is home to only 7,500 Merlot vines. Cultivation is meticulous, from pruning to crop thinning. The grapes tend to ripen relatively quickly – this provides the finished wine with velvety tannins and a rich palate of aromas and flavours.
