Budahazy Pinceszet

Budahazy Pinceszet

Centred around the historic single vineyards of Tokaj, Budahazy Pinceszet is a boutique estate practising traditional, careful, handcrafted winemaking. The region of Tokaj is acclaimed for its sweet wines, which rank among the world’s best.

Budahazy Pinceszet owns vineyards exclusively in the valuable, historic crus of Tokaj, farming a total of 3.5 hectares. Many of the vines are already over 60 years old.

Traditional, handcrafted winemaking

The winery favours sustainable and traditional production methods – tending its vines with the utmost care, doing everything by hand wherever possible, and eschewing the use of pesticides. Emphasis is on strict yield control. An old-style basket press is also employed in the cellar. Fermentation takes place in oak, relying on natural yeasts to do their job. The estate aims for dry wines that express as accurately as possible the varied terroir of the single vineyards in which they were grown. It is also committed to producing one of Hungary’s traditional and best-known exports: high-quality Tokaji Aszú.

Tokaji – famous the world over

Tokaji Aszú is one of the world’s most important and iconic wines. Made from white grape varieties and produced to varying levels of sweetness and quality, it has been prized by connoisseurs for centuries. Making Tokaji Aszú can be a nerve-racking and expensive business. The naturally concentrated juices of raisin-like grapes shrivelled by noble rot determine the wine’s sweetness. Noble rot is weather-dependent and does not necessarily occur every year. The European Union has given Tokaj – the name of the region – Protected Designation of Origin status.
