Philip Togni Vineyard

Philip Togni Vineyard Lisa and Philip Togni, Philip Togni Vineyards

Philip Togni’s boutique winery near the top of Spring Mountain produces elegant Cabernet blends known for their longevity, potential and great finesse.

Philip Togni has Ticino roots but grew up in Scotland. After leaving school, he studied geology in London before finding his true passion and calling. He went on to do an oenology degree in Bordeaux, where he was a student of the famed Professor Émile Peynaud. Together with his wife Birgitta, an extremely talented viticulturist who continues to manage vineyard operations on the estate to this day, Philip moved to Californian wine country in the late 1950s.

Prime location on Spring Mountain

In 1975, he purchased approximately four hectares of vineyard situated at an altitude of around 700 metres near the top of Spring Mountain in Napa Valley. These blocks contained pre-phylloxera vines but were replanted at the beginning of the 1980s with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Long-lived Cabernet Sauvignons that need time

Philip Togni Vineyard currently produces 25,000 bottles of one of the best and most elegant Cabernet blends around – a wine of great longevity that often needs eight or more years to become approachable, but worth the wait due to its added depth, finesse and complexity. Connoisseurs have long admired how well Togni wines age, even putting them on a par with the finest Pauillacs.

Daughter Lisa is now part of the business, giving continuity to her father’s exceptional legacy.

We're thrilled to have worked with Boucherville for over thirty years. Our handcrafted wines from our four hectare vineyard on Spring Mountain are in excellent hands."
