Selective harvest followed by a cold maceration ('cold soak'). Fermentation in open-top fermenters. Gentle pressing then maturation for 20 months – in 60% French and 40% American oak barrels.
Robert Parker: The Armagh is one of Australia's icon wines. Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1964 on its own roots, it is a 100% Shiraz cuvee that spent 17 months in 100% new French and American oak before a bottling without fining and filtration. A saturated purple color, it gives off an enthralling nose of pain grille, smoked meat, incense, Asian spices, boysenberry, mulberry, and plum. With exceptional depth, richness, and structure, this impeccably balanced Shiraz can be cellared for another 6-8 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2026.
Die Lage Armagh wurde 1968 von Jim mit Shiraz bepflanzt. Auf dem kargen, sandig kiesigen Boden müssen sich die Rebstöcke die Nahrung sehr tief in der Erde suchen. Regen gibt es nur wenig und bewässert wird nicht. Ausgerichtet ist der Rebberg nach Nordwesten, so dass die Trauben nicht unter zuviel Sonneneinstrahlung leiden. Der Ertrag liegt extrem tief, was die hohe Konzentration und Dichte des Armaghs erklärt.
