Floral aromas of lavender along with spice and vanilla. A very complex and quite exquisitely structured nose. Refreshing nuances of black cherry and plum then come into their own. Tremendous character and pedigree on the palate, with a powerful body, striking acidity and a velvety mouthfeel thanks to mild tannins.
Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by fermentation in stainless steel, then six months on the lees. Bottling with a crown cap after the addition of the liqueur de tirage. Second fermentation and 24 months on the lees. Subsequent disgorgement with minimal dosage, then a further three months of bottle ageing before release.
The Franciacorta district's geography of rolling hills was shaped by glacial action during the Ice Age. The soil – glacial moraines – have an extremely rich mineral content that are conducive to the production of high-quality sparkling wine. Franciacorta's has a mild climate thanks its location amid these glacial foothills, which protect the area from harsh winter temperatures and attract enough moisture in summer. During the growing season (April to October), the average rainfall is between 500 and 600 mm, which corresponds to around two thirds of annual rainfall.
