Merlot is the most widely planted red grape variety in Bordeaux, where it commonly acts both as the junior and senior blending partner of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It produces fruity, supple, rich, full-bodied wines that are approachable in youth but offer decades of ageing potential.
