Weingut Weegmüller

Weingut Weegmüller Georg Hofer and Jan Kubat, Weingut Weegmüller

Weingut Weegmüller, known for producing fruit-driven white wines of impressive concentration, succulence and clarity, entered a new era after changing hands in summer 2021.

The Weegmüllers, an old noble family from Zurich, immigrated to the Pfalz in 1657. They settled in Haardt, a neighbourhood of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, in 1737. Haardt, nicknamed the ‘balcony of the Pfalz’ due to its idyllic location overlooking the vineyards and expanse of plain beyond, provides the perfect setting for growing characterful wines.

End of the family line

Stephanie Weegmüller-Scherr and her sister Gabriele represented the 11th generation of the Weegmüller family to manage the estate. Weegmüller-Scherr handed the reins to Georg Hofer and Jan Kubat in 2021, bringing over 300 years of family ownership to an end.

Fresh start for a traditional Pfalz estate

The new owners intend to preserve and nurture the iconic Weegmüller brand but have ambitions to take the estate to the next level. Hofer and Kubat: “These vineyards have so much potential. They could be punching even higher.” Sales and marketing expert Jan Kubat wants to give Weegmüller greater national and international visibility, while winemaker Gregor Hofer aims to produce wines that are befitting of this revamp.

“We love the land, the climate and the soils that help to produce our wines. The winegrowing heritage of the Mittelhaardt is close to our hearts. And our feet are firmly on the ground. We are ready to forge our own path.”
